Helensburgh Amateur Swimming Club: Age Group Championships

Age Group Championships

The championships are open to all club members of all age groups and they can choose to enter as many of the races as they wish. The races are swum over 5 different nights with a different stroke at each gala to cover all strokes, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and frontcrawl, plus an individual medley, which consists of all 4 strokes.

In events where more than 6 swimmers wish to compete, they are “seeded” according to their ability with the fastest swimmers swimming in the last heat. These events are called “Declared Winner” events. This means that it is the fastest swimmer overall that wins (not the fastest swimmer from each heat).

All swimmers who take part and finish their race are guaranteed at least 1 point with the winner of the race being awarded 7 points. The more races you enter the more points you can win. At the end of the 5 galas the swimmer with the most points is the ‘Champion’ of that age group. Every swimmer taking part in a championship race is awarded a pennant. Swimmers and their parents should check the notice board for the dates of these events.
